Latitude 22
Latitude 22, now called “The Roadhouse”, just with a better view. The restaurant/bar has moved out onto the Corridor behind the Power plant which now provides an incredible view of the Arch. All of the old pictures and memorabilia are still there, which is what made this bar a favorite of mine. If you are driving take the side road past Costco and take the first right after the Power plant, one block up. If you are taking a taxi, you might have to ask for the New Latitude 22. The taxi drivers know that name better then “The Roadhouse”.
Things change…the name of this place for one, but more amazing is the fact that Cabo has a Costco. Kind of sad, but spend some time in the “New Latitude 22” or “the Roadhouse”, or “la cantina cerca de Costco”, and you’ll see just how much Cabo has changed. The walls are full of photographs and assorted odds and ends that tell a thousand stories.

A Costco in Cabo…makes me think of ¡Ask a Mexican!, the weekly column and book written by Gustavo Arellano. When asked why Mexicans feel they have the right to take the shopping cart home, his answer was that the shopping cart is to the Mexican what the buffalo was to the American Indian. There is no part unused…
Now Cabo is an affluent town, but I do recall many streets were unpaved and can only imagine that as a growing tourist spot, it will create a bigger divide between “haves” and “have nots”. Next time I sit at the Roadhouse bar I will look out across at the arc, and watch as a Costco cart gets pushed one way down Carr. Transpenisular.
